A rigid system is just that: rigid. Rather than change, it will require the conditions of its environment to change. The DMV is a classic example. Whether or not their processes and mechanisms are useful is irrelevant: the processes and mechanisms are rigid, not subject to change and condition the world around them. A dry stick is rigid. It can resist change but once pushed too hard will break.
A fluid system is just that: fluid. It is very easy for it to change in response to different conditions. Different levels of viscosity can lead to different resistances to change, but fundamentally it is responsive. Water will flow into the shape of its container with almost no resistance. Wet clay requires substantial force to reshape, but can ultimately assume many shapes.
Polymorphism is a characteristic of a fluid system that has some ability to control its internal viscosity. As a consequence, it can very fluidly flow into some dynamic and map itself to the nuanced character of the dynamic. But it can then turn up the viscosity and have some ability to resist and push against its environment while always maintaining the ability to re-fluidify and change shape.
Liquid Democracy is fluid and polymorphic. In our current environment, we have some set of buckets into which a given problem has to be placed. Is bitcoin a currency, a security or a commodity? Does it belong to treasury or the SEC? In a more fluid environment, an ad hoc structure could be generated to intelligently asses, deliberate on and then design and implement solutions to the problem of bitcoin.
