In 2012, Jim Rutt and Jordan Greenhall gathered some folks to talk about what they might do to make the world a better place.
They were frustrated with the Zero-sum-game that's current at play in most of American society. To confront the bigness of the task, they reasoned that a political vehicle, a 3rd political party, would be needed. They dubbed the party "The New Day Party" with the dominating characteristic being a one-time Jubilee, a debt forgiveness plan which could quickly kill the banking establishments, making space for better systems. They discussed their ideas in a google group under the code name: NuJay – the combination of New Day and (J for) Jubilee.
Late August 2012. Jim hired Miriam Burrows and they rented an office in downtown Staunton VA.
September 14, 2012. Incorporated under the name New Day as a non-profit organized exclusively to engage in the promotion of social welfare.
Staunton 1 – September 29 & 30, 2012. A small cast of characters gathered in Staunton: Jim, Jordan, Thor, Mark F, Mark M, Cameron, Curtis F, Eleanor, Celia, and Miriam. Party name changed to “Emancipation Party”. Reforms are decided on. Task teams assemble.
Staunton 2 – December 1 & 2, 2012. Gauging interest through $20 monthly dues. Worked on the website: __www.emancipationparty.org__
Staunton 3 – January 19 & 20, 2013. EP 2.0 Reforms were adopted making 9 total reforms. Changed direction realizing $20 a month business model wasn’t working. Need to connect to Millennials. We ask and answer the question, Why? Why change, why younger people, why now?
Staunton 4 – March 23 & 24, 2013. The action plan was to take the rough architect's sketch on a napkin and turn it into a series of BLUEPRINTS as detailed descriptions of what needs to be done—well beyond a political party. Core components include: REAL NAME ID, REPUTATION SYSTEM, HONOR HIERARCHY, MEME WORKS, REDDIT++, CO-OP UMBRELLA. HEALTH CARE is an example. Need CHAPTER (LOCAL AND VIRTUAL) STARTUP KIT, THE PARTY VERSION 2.0.
Staunton 5 - May 18 & 19, 2013. The official coinage of Game ~B. New Day Steering Committee to dissolve July 4, 2013 and be replaced by: Game B Steering Committee, Network Steering Committee, New Day Party Steering Committee.
